What is a ceramic coating?
A ceramic coating is a sacrificial layer that is applied to your car's paint to protect the clear coat from degrading.
Without applying a wax, sealant or ceramic coating to your car, the paint will begin to degrade over time. One major advantage of ceramic coatings over waxes and sealants are how long they last. It is generally suggested to apply wax, such as carnauba wax, once per month. Sealants last longer than wax, but rule of thumb is to reapply every 3-4 months. Ceramic coatings on the other hand last years.

Typical Ceramic Coating Prices?
Prices vary depending on the amount of paint correction done and on the longevity of the coating itself. However, with that in mind, here are some typical prices based on vehicle size and an average coating choice (6 year ceramic coating protection.

How much do ceramic coatings cost?
Why do ceramic coatings cost so much?
The main driving factor in the cost of ceramic coatings is preparing the paint so the ceramic coating bonds properly.
There are lots of ceramic coatings on the market today ranging from do it yourself coatings to professional grade coatings that come with a warranty. A certified ceramic coating specialist will first take great care in washing the vehicle so as to not introduce scratches in the paint. Washing alone does not remove all contaminants from the paint. A chemical decontamination is then done to dissolve any iron particles that may be stuck to the paint.

After chemically decontaminating the paint, the ceramic coating technician will clay bar the entire car to remove any bonded contaminants from the paint's surface. Then a paint prep wipe down is performed to ensure there are not left over residues from any of the previous steps.

Only after all the above steps have been completed can the paint be inspected for defects. Any defect in the paint that is not corrected prior to the ceramic coating being applied will be visible afterwards. The thickness of the paint is then measured to determine how much clear coat there is to work with to be able compound and polish the defects away and leave the paint surface with a high gloss finish.

After any paint correction is completed, the paint needs to be wiped with paint prep again to ensure there is not any residual polish left on the surface.

Now the paint is finally ready for the ceramic coating to be applied. When applying the coating, extra care is taken to ensure it is applied evenly so there are not any visible high spots.

With so many steps that are required and the upmost attention to detail is why ceramic coatings cost what they do.
